WhoDat Nation Report

Welcome to the first WhoDat Nation report of this Season. One week into the Saints training camp. It’s time for us to give the WhoDat Nation out there a first insight into the most interesting Position Battles.

Let’s start with the Quaterbacks:

The starter will be no surprise to anyone. This Job belongs to Drew Brees until he decides to retire, but behind him, we have a battle for the Number 2 spot. As for now, it is still Bridgewaters job to lose, but Coach Payton will continue using Taysom Hill in any way that could help the Team.

At Halfback, we have Alvin Kamara, who now with Ingram has gone will see more Action on the Field. Behind him, Latavius Murray will be there to give him some breaks and if he shows enough he may be able to convince Coach Payton that he is able to be used in a similar fashion then Ingram was used last Season. After Murray we have a bunch of Players who all could get a spot but also could be replaced by the other HB. At Fullback, Zach Line will start and Burtton will probably be cut no real competition there.

Next up we have the Reciever Crew. Mike Thomas is the Star man of this Reciever Corps and the 2nd most important man in this whole offence. After him we have veteran Tedd Ginn, who is looking to rebound from his forgettable last year, The other Veteran Rishard Matthews is on his way out of New Orleans if we can believe the rumours. Sophmore Tre’quan Smith will battle Ginn for Snaps in formations with 2 WR on the Field and will play Slot the other times. Behind them we have a couple of young WR who all fight for a roster spot. Kirkwood is in a good position and should be save for a roster spot, just because I gives that Saints Reciever Group some size that nobody else besides Thomas really can deliever.

At TE and Oline most Positions are set. Open Questions there is will Notre Dame Rookie Alize Mack make the roster and will the Saints upgrade on the Guard?

At Defensive End we have an intense Battle between Hendrickson and Davenport. At this Point Hendrickson seems to be the favourite, but most likely we will see some sort of split between the two.

At Linebacker with the arrival of Nick Perry at the Saints Camp today it looks like we have our 3 Starting LB with Davis, Perry and Anzalone. But what we saw often in Training Camp that SS Vonn Bell played in a lot of SubLB sets, together with Davis. But with Bell also on the Tradeblock this will change as soon as/ if they find a tradepartner for Bell.

The Secondary is definitly the one position group that has the bigest depth on this Saints roster. Coach Payton is pretty happy with the nice mix of young Hungrey player and veterans the Saints have in this group. But due to the big depth it’s also the position group which will most likely get changed up with a trade. Right now the five Starter in Secondary are Lattimore Apple Robinson at corner Williams and Rookie Gardener-Johnson at Saftey. Behind them we have Bell, Webster and PJ Williams who all could also start and also starting returner Sherells. Together with Veteran Banjo that’s already 11 player in secondary, only 10 of them will make the final roster. Favourites to miss the roster right now are Webster or Sherells.
