NFC SOUTH – 2019 PREVIEW
Last but by no means least, we come to the NFC South. The home to the reigning Super Bowl Champions: New Orleans Saints. Oh, and three other teams. The Falcons had a winning season, again. The Panthers lived in their shadows, and the Buccs were just their usual, losing season selves.
New Orleans Saints
2018 record: 10-6 (Super Bowl Champions)
Take a bow Drew Brees.
You done it baby.
The Saints, against the odds, are the Super Bowl champs.
Top five on most stat boards, they’ve got a really solid side. Michael Thomas is a fantastic receiver and Alvin Kamara just keeps getting better.
They haven’t got much cap room to play with and I must say Amendola is a risky signing.
They could do with a left tackle, as Brees’ blindside looks vulnerable.
Surprisingly despite being top 10 in yards per game, they were quite mediocre with average points scored. Some work in the red zone should be the focus in the off season.
I don’t think they will go all the way again this year but this division isn’t the strongest in the league so play-offs is definitely on the cards. Biggest danger is Atlanta. It looks like the two will battle it out once again.
2018 record: 9-7
I like this Falcons team. I really do.
But let’s face the facts here. They aren’t getting any younger.
Julio Jones looks to have regressed during training camp which won’t help Matt Ryan.
Despite this, last year they generated the most passing yards. Calvin Ridley looks an absolute stud.
Defensively they looked sneaky good and their secondary is one of the best in the league, period.
I think the Falcons will try pick up Matt Ryan’s heir to the throne this year. Although not with their first pick.
They could really do with an outside linebacker. It could be the key to their success this year.
They will go close this year, i’m feeling a deep run.
2018 record: 8-8
The Panthers look set to take another step backwards as their two rivals make moves forwards.
Cam Newton deserves better but unfortunately the coaching staff just don’t seem to know what they are doing.
They signed a bunch of players. Like a BUNCH. And i’m struggling to find one that is an out and out starter.
They were at the bottom of the stat sheets for pretty much every offensive section last year.
Something needs to change.
Maybe a new coach? Hello… anyone out there?
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2018 record: 6-10
I feel sorry for the Buccs.
They have a really tough division. Why couldn’t they just have the Browns to play with? Oh wait, they Browns went to a Super Bowl. My bad.
They seem content to ride Winston. I think it’s such a bad move. He just isn’t good.
More to the point, he’s mentally fragile.
Rumour has it a postit note was found in the NFL headquarters saying they are looking for a new coach to take them in a new direction.
Any takers? I think not. Unfortunately.
